SPECTATE

The start line is on the sea wall on the south-eastern edge of South Woodham Ferrers. All participants & relay teams must register at least 1 hour before the start of the event (register by 8am for walkers, 9am for runners) at the Race HQ which will be based at Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park (still called Marsh Farm Country Park on most maps), Marsh Farm Rd, South Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford, Essex CM3 5WP. There is ample free parking here, along with toilets and refreshments (including bacon sandwiches usually). Supporters can access the start line on foot from the end of Creekview Road. From the roundabout at the junction of Creekview Rd & Broughton Rd head east along the dirt track to the sea wall and turn right for 300m.

All checkpoints will be obvious to spot with Saltmarsh75 flags and staff with Saltmarsh T-shirts.

Please note checkpoints may be subject to change for 2017. Details will be updated nearer the event.

DAY ONE

Checkpoint 1 – North Fambridge, CM3 6LR -. There is a reasonable amount of parking at the pub with additional on-street parking available in Ferry Road before the pub. Please do not park on the road outside or beyond the pub as you will be obstructing access to the boatyards and your car may get wet as the tide comes in!!!
There are no shops in North Fambridge but the pub will be open and has a limited supply of crisps, chocolate bars etc. Toilets are available in the pub.

Checkpoint 2 – Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Burnham Clubhouse, The Quay, Burnham on Crouch, Essex, CM0 8AX. www.royalcorinthian.co.uk. Drive to the far end of Burnham-on-Crouch High Street, turn right into Belvedere Close. Follow the road round to the left and the yacht club car park is on the right. The sign says Private Car Park but you can ignore this for today. Enter the car park & turn left immediately to park. The checkpoint will be on the sea wall by the yacht club - the big white & blue building. Toilets and changing rooms (including showers) are available in the building below the Checkpoint. The Sailing Club bar and restaurant will be open all day selling a wide range of drinks, snacks and meals. There are also a number of shops and cafes in the High Street and several pubs on the Quay where you can have some lunch whilst waiting for participants to arrive.

Checkpoint 3 – Othona Community at East Hall Farm, East End Rd, Southminster, CM0 7PN. www.othona-bradwell.org.uk/Othona-Location
At St.Thomas church in the centre of Bradwell on Sea, turn right into East End Road and continue for about 1.5 miles, passing The Cricketers pub and Eastland Meadows Caravan Park. Turn left into East Hall Farm, which has a blue plough and a pond at the front. Turn right, round the back of the farmhouse, and continue to the end of the track where you will find the Community car park. Parking will be very limited so please park considerately.
Please drive very carefully and slowly through the farm and along the tracks and look out for people, animals and farm vehicles.
It is worth getting here early to enjoy the peace and the wonderful views. The checkpoint is by the back door to the main building and toilets are available inside. Please allow plenty of time to get here – it is always further than you think it is!!! There is a small community shop in Bradwell village if you need to stock up on supplies on the way - www.bradwellshop.co.uk. It is open until 6pm on Saturdays.

Checkpoint 4 – Marina Bar, Bradwell Marina, Waterside, Bradwell-on-sea, CM0 7RB. 01621 776235. www.bradwellmarina.com
There is a link to a map on their website homepage. Turn left into the Marina just after the 30mph signs as you enter Bradwell Waterside on the B1021. Please park in the car park on the right hand side of the access road. You will need a £1 coin to open the barrier. Park here then walk 400m to the Checkpoint at the Marina Bar – it will be quite obvious. Toilets are available in the Marina Bar and at the base of the Marina Offices building – the one that looks like a control tower. There is a small shop in the Chandlery selling a limited range of confectionery and bottled drinks but it closes at 5pm. The Marina Bar will be open all day from 12 noon selling a wide range of drinks, snacks & meals.

Checkpoint 5 – Stone Sailing Club, Tinnocks Lane, St. Lawrence Bay, CM0 7NF. 01621 779344

Drive into St Lawrence, almost to the end of the road and turn left into St. Lawrence Drive. The Sailing Club car park is on the left just before Mountview Crescent. The Checkpoint is at the Sailing Club on the opposite side of the road. There is a small but well-stocked shop on the main road through the village which is open to 6pm. Hot and cold drinks will be available at the sailing club and The Stone Inn is just a two minute walk up the road.

Checkpoint 6 – Steeple Village Hall, off Garden Fields, Steeple.
Please park at the Star Inn, The Street, Steeple, CM0 7LF (www.starsteeple.co.uk) or on the roadside. DO NOT PARK IN THE VILLAGE HALL CAR PARK OR ON THE ACCESS ROAD UNLESS DIRECTED TO DO SO BY AN EVENT MARSHALL AS OUR EMERGENCY VEHICLE NEED CLEAR ACCESS.

Race HQ will move here shortly after the runners set off from South Woodham Ferrers.
Marshalls will be on hand from 12 noon and we will be serving hot drinks and biscuits etc in the hall from early afternoon. Snacks and meals are available at the Star Inn or just down the road at the Sun & Anchor.
Please note there are no shops in Steeple village. There are a number of shops & take-aways about 4 miles away in Imperial Avenue, Maylandsea, CM3 6AH.

DAY TWO

Checkpoint 7 – Harlow (Blackwater) Sailing Club, Seaview Parade (End of North Drive), Maylandsea, CM3 6AG. 01621 740300. www.harlow-blackwater-sailing-club.co.uk
There is a limited amount of parking at the sailing club so please park before the road becomes a gravel track, along North Drive & Esplanade East. There are major engineering works being carried out on the sea wall either side of the sailing club so the exact position of the checkpoint will probably not be finalised until a day or two before the event. If the works have been completed and the weather is fair it will be on the sea wall. Otherwise, it will be in the clubhouse or grounds of the sailing club. Marshalls will be on hand to advise. Toilets are available in the clubhouse. There are several shops in Imperial Avenue, Maylandsea, CM3 6AH.

Checkpoint 8 – Promenade Park, Park Drive, Maldon. CM9 5JQ
The park is well sign-posted from all routes into Maldon – just follow the brown tourist signs. Please note that a pay and display car park operates in the park.
The Checkpoint will be on the sea wall on the opposite side of the main toilet block. In the event of poor weather it will be in the Information Point. The park has good facilities with several toilets, changing rooms and kiosks selling a wide range of snacks, drinks and sweets etc. There is also a good variety of play equipment and skateboarding and bmx tracks for those with families.

Checkpoint 9 – The Lock , Basin Road, Heybridge Basin.
Turn off the B1026 Goldhanger Road into Basin Road. Follow round bends and follow signs to free parking at Daisy Meadow car park. Exit the car park via the steps up to the canal path & turn left for 200m to pass The Old Ship PH. The checkpoint will be on the sea wall to the left or in The Lock Tearooms opposite The Jolly Sailor PH – depending on weather conditions. Toilets are available in the tea rooms or in The Old Ship PH – please use the side door up the steps.
The tea rooms will be open from 9am serving a wide range of light snacks and meals. The Old Ship and Jolly Sailor will both be open all day.

Checkpoint 10 – is at Goldhanger Sailing Club, Goldhanger Creek.
From Maldon/Heybridge direction, turn right into Head Street on reaching Goldhanger. Turn right by The Chequers PH into Fish Street. Park at the end of Fish Street taking care not to block access to any houses or the farm. Take the footpath next to the play site to the sea wall (follow blue & white sign). Up steps & turn right on sea wall for 400m to Goldhanger Sailing Club on the right.
Please ensure you allow yourselves 15 minutes to get from Goldhanger village to the Checkpoint. Parking is limited in the village so please be considerate.
The sailing club has changing facilities, toilets and a large indoor seating area.


Checkpoint 11 – The Loft Tea Rooms, Woodrolfe Rd, Tollesbury, CM9 8SE. 01621 869063.
From Tolleshunt D’Arcy take the B1023 to Tollesbury. Drive through the village and just after the school, turn left into Woodrolfe Road, signposted Tollesbury Marina. Shortly after the last house on the left turn left into the gravel car park, signposted Recycling Point. There are public toilets here and the Checkpoint is a five minute walk further down the road just past the flood gate. Roadside parking is also available along this road but please park considerately and do not park beyond the flood gate as the road will be flooded by the tide for 2 to 3 hours. The Loft is a traditional tea room with a great atmosphere. A wonderful place to wait for participants to arrive – but don’t forget your wellies! There are also several shops, cafes and pubs in the main part of the village – the last chance to get supplies before the end!!!! Macolls newsagents off the main square sells just about everything and is open until 10pm.


Finish – Salcott Village Hall, The Street, Salcott, CM9 8HL
From Tolleshunt D’Arcy take the B1026 towards Mersea Island. After 1.5 miles turn right at the crossroads, signposted Salcott Village Only. The Village Hall is about half a mile down this road on the left. This is a narrow, dead-end road with limited on-street parking only so please park with consideration for the local residents. Marshalls will be on hand to help. Race HQ will move here shortly after the participants set off from Steeple.
